This painting is all about placing the post-box back in its original environment – back on the corner of Brunswick and Gertrude Street, Fitzroy.

The surroundings are blurred and the colour is made more vibrant so as to focus on the mailbox and give it context in its environment.

What is left of the written word nowadays – only the wonderful unique and complicated writings of a multitude of taggers, with the occasional sticker on the surface of a mailbox.

I love that the mailbox itself is the written word now, not the handwritten letters that mailboxes used to contain.
