‘A quick trip to the shops’ shows a typical urban street scene in Australia – shop signs, posters, graffiti and road markings. The car, pole and man are outlined to remind us they are fleeting; while buildings and concrete are solid immovable objects. The patterns on the wall, fence and road, reflect not only the colours but also the texture of each of the surfaces – rough bricks, timber fence and coarse dry road – these patterns emphasise the surrounding signage.

For this piece I specifically felt the need to use the matt gold as it reminded me of the British Royal history of the pillar box, plus it also highlights each piece of communication in the landscape.
