Can you take an image to an extreme point of representation, while still maintaining the context of the image? This was the basis.
These 3 little “Full Circle: Experiment” paintings have everything you need to know in their name. They are called ‘Full Circle’ because when I originally started to explore the subject matter of text and communication in our everyday landscape, I created some pieces that used blurred images in the background with an overlay of text and communication on clear acrylic. The image was a photograph printed on canvas because at the time I couldn’t imagine another way of creating this idea. Now I’ve reached a moment in my life when I can create the vision I had all those years ago.
‘Experiment’ refers to the 3 different variations of displaying the text.
1. There is no representation of text in the blurred image. The text is crisp and the colour is the same as in the original image, but I’ve moved the letters around slightly to see if you can still read it.
2. There is text and graphics in the blurred image with the text over the top crisp and represented by the colour in the original image.
3. There is text and graphics in the blurred image but the colour of the text is the colour that was in the distorted enhanced colour image.
They are painted on strange shapes to further confuse the original images. Are they readable?
